Random Reads #3: Delusions of Gender by Cordelia Fine

I get so excited every time the first of the month rolls round. It's Random Time! So far, I've completed every Random Read I've been given. Take a look -

Random Read #1: The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Vol. 2 by Alan Moore
Random Read #2: Telling Tales: A History of Literary Hoaxes by Melissa Katsoulis

Okay, so that's only two, but I'm sure there will be many more, as long as Sarah from I'm Loving Books keeps it going!

The idea is to read one book, picked completely at random, off your TBR shelf. This is absolutely brilliant for me, as I have a huge TBR that never seems to go down and it doesn't help that I have so many review books waiting to be read!

Want to join in?

It’s easy…
  1. If you’re on Goodreads, enable sorting to your to-read shelf (you should see numbers next to each book now).
  2. Go to Random.org and type in the Min as 1 and the Max as how many ever books are on your to-read shelf.
  3. Scroll down to the book matching the number Random.org picks.
  4. Link up to your Random Reads post by clicking on the banner above.
If you’re not on Goodreads just pick a random book from your list in whatever way you want to do it. You can use the method I used above or even just close your eyes and point randomly at a book on your bookshelf if you want (spin the bottle style).

(explanation stolen from the sign-up post).

I spun 54, so my Random Read for June is.... *drum roll* Delusions of Gender: The Real Science behind Sex Differences by Cordelia Fine!

It's kind of strange, but Random.org hasn't actually managed to pick me a fiction book yet. I've had a graphic novel and then two non-fiction. That's alright though - it's likely it would have taken me a while to get round to reading this one :)

  1. Ooh, I have this one on my wishlist but I haven't seen many reviews. I'm interested to see what you think. :)

  2. That's interesting that random.org isn't picking fiction books for you. One of these days! lol I hope you enjoy it, it sounds interesting.

  3. Wow, I'd never heard of Random Reads before! I'm not going to take part this month because I still have library books to SORT THE HELL OUT, but I'm thinking it would be a WONDERFUL way to pick books from Mount TBR after that... I'll be watching with interest! :)

    1. I know, I get so excited about this meme :) Somehow just using Random.org to pick books isn't as motivating without a blog post behind it!

  5. I would have buried that book deep in my shelves just to avoid the creepy cover!

  6. This is so much fun. I have so many books to read and often the hardest thing is making the big decision. I will have to check this out.

  7. Oh I love this! I can't believe I've never heard of it before! I just did it and apparently am reading The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters which is goooooood because I've been weirdly craving some historical stuff lately. I blame my parents. They've been visiting and we've been to a fair amount of castles over the last few days, which always makes me feel like I don't know as much about stuff as I should... :-/

    1. Ohhh I get that feeling sometimes too. And then I read some historical fiction and convince myself it's the same thing...

I love this too, it makes me so excited :)
