Dewey's 24 Hour Read'a'thon 2014

Morning everybody! It's nearly time. I've been looking forward to this an awful lot, although I have a huge headache from travelling to the other side of the country and back for a job interview yesterday so I expect my progress might be slow. That's okay though - the idea is to read more than you would normally, which I'll definitely achieve.

I'll also only be taking part today as I'm driving to Sheffield tomorrow morning and so obviously want to have had enough sleep to make it safe.

I'll be posting updates in blocks of three per post.

Before we start, here's the introductory meme:

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?
I'm in West Yorkshire, England. I live near Haworth, which is the village where the Brontes lived, and also Saltaire, which is a World Heritage Site model village. Sometimes I feel quite lucky to live where I do!

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
Having had such a busy week, I haven't really given much thought to what I'll read.
I've challenged myself to get my TBR to below 301 books by January 31st, so I'd just like to make some progess towards that. You can see how I'm doing in the little box in the top of the right sidebar.

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
Nada. Nothing. Zilch. Did I mention how unwell I feel?

4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
Let's see. I'm 25 and qualified to work as a barrister last year. Right now I'm looking at charity jobs, particularly those with the values I feel strongest about.
I also have 72 copies of Pride and Prejudice!

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today?
I did participate in the last one, but I read more books than I thought possible in one day and had a great time doing it!
The only thing I'll do differently is go to bed earlier and read less tomorrow, but that can't be helped. Safety first, kids!
30 minutes until kick-off!

  1. Oh no, not looking forward to snacks?! I've got a stinking cold but food is keeping me going just about. I have some leftover thai soup that is so gingery it'll wake me up AND help me breathe. Anyway best of luck and hope you get plenty read and a good night's sleep.

    1. Haha, I'm sat here in silence with a hoodie (and I NEVER wear hoodies) pulled over my face and my shoulders all hunched up like a hermit... Do hermits hunch their shoulders? Ah well, this one does!

Oh, thai soups sounds nice! Hope you feel better - colds aren't very conducive to reading.

  2. HELLO! Don't worry, I'll eat snacks for you - I have a good hormonal headache happening but I tend to go for the 'eating all the food to stave it off' approach unless it's bad enough to make me feel sick. Which it isn't yet, thankfully. :)

Happy reading sweetness, don't overdo but ENJOY THE DAY. I'm kicking off with Our Zoo, so I'll let you know how that goes. I loved the series so much!
