This isn't what I'd call an ideal read-a-thon book as it's a little too heavy, but I'd planned to finish it yesterday and move on to something lighter today, but that didn't happen. Never mind - it's not too bad as I actually really like it and there are only 30 pages or so to go.
I'm managing to keep up a steady pace despite my fuzzy head and watery eyes and there haven't been many distractions as yet! Hour One was a success :)

To give myself a bit of a break before starting something new, I've spent the last 30 minutes catching up on Ninja Swap Admin and organising my work trip to Alton Towers. When I've finished this I'm going to choose my next book (no, I haven't got the faintest clue what that will be) and go eat some cereal or something equally harmless.
TWO MINUTES LATER:
Well, that was easy. I shall be reading A Mango-Shaped Space by Wendy Mass, which I believe is a YA/middle grade novel about synthesia. But as I bought it a year and a half ago, I may be wrong!

I was right - it is about a thirteen year old girl who has synthesia, although hasn't been diagnosed with it yet. I really like it and it's easy reading, although it has its faults.
I don't seem to be 'into' reading today which is probably due to the reading I did on my twelve hour train journey yesterday, so I'm not forcing myself into it. I am reading but I'm letting myself check my phone, answer e-mails or whatever I feel like doing.

I chose to stage A Mango-Shaped Space with very bright wrapping paper, because the book is about how we see colour and the affect it has on our lives. Plus I suppose you could see that Mia's diagnosis was a gift to her, so.... wrapping paper? :)

I only got 30 minutes of reading done because Blogger wouldn't work while posting my last update and I was busy getting frustrated with my laptop. It wouldn't work for this update either, although this time I kept reading until it finally gave in.
I do like this book although the writing is ever-so-slightly lazy. Instant solutions and easy escapes, that kind of thing. I'm feeling slightly irritatable today though, so I admit it could be down to that!

You're off to a great start! The Tenant of Wildfell Hall is a great read - good luck finishing it off. And I hope your fuzzy head clears up a bit. Happy read-a-thoning!

I'm so glad The Tenant of Wildfell Hall is good. I realised the other day that I have no idea what it's about! Obviously I could have fixed that by now but I keep forgetting...
ReplyDeleteI went for a Snow White re-telling for my first book and it was good. Not great but ok. The writing was a bit wobbly and the...adult content a bit awkward but the ending was unexpectedly brilliant and it was entertaining and easy to read so a good read-a-thon book!
I didn't either - I only read it because I felt like reading a Bronte sister. It's actually really good, although loses its way a bit towards the end.

ReplyDeleteCommenting baaaackwards... lalala... So, hello! 56 pages is deeply impressive for an hour of classic-based reading, shut up. I want to read The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, just... not yet. I'm planning a 'buy five, read one' project based on some lovely people on BookTube, so we'll see how that goes. :P Your bookshelves are BEAUTIFUL, like a frickin' library all its own. Take pictures of spooky things at Alton Towers, please, especially if that Thirteen girl shows up again like frickin' Samara. I like your staging picture, it's so cheerful. *steals fiver and runs off* I love catching up on readathon posts. :D
ReplyDeleteHAHAHA WHAT A TELLING SLIP. I obviously meant 'read five, buy one', but my brain had more realistic ideas. Ohhh god I think I need therapy. :)
DeleteIt is actually really good. The ending is a bit anti-climactic, but I recommend the rest of it... and we all know how grouchy I am about everything, so if I like it... ;)
