It's done, it's over!
And what perfect timing too - I finished The President's Hat at 12:57pm without resorting to skimming or rushing.
Here are my final statistics:
I've been reading:
The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte
A Mango-Shaped Space by Wendy Mass
Dead Poet's Society by N.H. Kleinbaum
The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman
The President's Hat by Antoine Laurain
Pages read altogether: 850
Hours spent reading: 11.5
Books finished: 4.5
Hours spent reading: 11.5
Books finished: 4.5
I am thrilled with this number - it's more than ever before, and yet I still feel like I've given each book the proper attention it deserves. My TBR pile is down to 317, so its looking possible that I might get down to 300 by December 31st! I'm down by seven books for October so far, and that's including the fact that I've gained three.
God bless the read-a-thons!
Which hour was most daunting for you?
I think 10am, the hour after I first woke up. I wanted to read more, but I also wanted to be able to either completely finish another book or at least get to the halfway point (OCD rulez ok) so I got a little stressed about which book to use and whether to actually read at all.
Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?
Definitely Dead Poet's Society. It's a novelisation, but a good one and I was desperate to know what happened so I just kept turning those pages!
Possibly also A Mango-Shaped Space, which is about a girl and her diagnosis of synthesesia. It has its faults but it's good read-a-thon fodder.
Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?
Ummm.... actually, no. A few of the challenges required too much effort to participate in that detract from valuable reading time for me, but those are optional so I can't complain!
What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon?
A lot of cheerleaders came by my blog, which was lovely.
How many books did you read?
Four complete books, plus finishing off the one I'd already begun.
What were the names of the books you read?
The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte
A Mango-Shaped Space by Wendy Mass
Dead Poet's Society by N.H. Kleinbaum
The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman
The President's Hat by Antoine Laurain Which book did you enjoy most?
Definitely Dead Poet's Society. I might have enjoyed it less if I'd already seen the film but that's not the point. I cried at the ending and hugged the book - it affected me that much.
Which did you enjoy least?
The President's Hat. It may have just been because it was the last book I read, but I felt that there were too many references to French politics for me to take everything in properly. I did enjoy it, just not as much as the others!
If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders?
I wasn't, but they all did so well! Thank you to all of them for doing a great job :)
How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role
would you be likely to take next time?
Very likely, considering I got through 4.5 books over the last 24 hours! I love feeling part of a huge reading movement, just for one day, so I'll definitely be reading again, life commitments allowing.
"I'll probably hardly reading anything," she said, "I'll just take part anyway and see how it goes," she said. Well, I think you blew that one out of the water, didn't you? 850 pages... excuse my French, but fuck me. *awestruck and slightly dazed round of applause*
ReplyDeleteI started skipping some of the challenges as well, but I can see that if I'd done less of them/been updating less regularly then probably one or two of the bigger ones would have made a fun diversion. I couldn't be arsed to start mucking about doing ones that required lugging books around or actual though at stupid o'clock in the morning though. My bad!
The cheerleaders were so good this time! I think we both had the same 'team' cheering for us, and I've had at least two or three visits I think, maybe more (I haven't kept up with my comments that well - that's what this afternoon's for!). *cheers for the cheerleaders*
*whispers* Watch the film, Hanna. You know I won't rest until you do. Watch iiiiiit. Okay bye! *runs off to finish her book and find something for lunch* :D
*thought
DeleteReally must learn to proofread readathon comments, especially after very little sleep.
HA, thank you. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't at least partly proud. The books I read weren't really great literature, but at least they're read now. Dead Poet's Society was particularly amazing.
DeleteI will watch the film... no, I completely won't watch the film, realistically. I'd like to, I would, but I DO NOT have the attention span when alone. Watch it with me! :)
WOW that is a lot of reading in one day! I keep on wanting to join in with this, but I always realise that it's happening too late or it's on a day where I can't really put aside any time for reading. Also my husband really doesn't understand the whole reading thing, and would undoubtedly complain at me if I spent that much time reading! Hmm. Still. I would like to do it at some point. I just need a weekend where he is away on a business trip somewhere!
ReplyDeleteI know the feeling - it's rare that I'm able to do it as I live apart from my boyfriend so weekends are usually the only time I have to see him, and I don't want to waste it reading the whole time!
DeleteIt just so happened that he was away this weekend... not that I wish him away, but you know... ;)
Well done Hanna! My reading target is back on track, readathons are so useful aren't they. I need to did out Ocean at the End of the Lane soon as book group are reading it.
ReplyDeleteI WANT A BOOK GROUP!
DeleteSorry, it just feels obligatory to say that now :)
I've forgotten TOatEotL already. I vaguely enjoyed it while I was reading it, but I can't see myself needing to read it again really.
In my head, I'd already commented on this but clearly not! 4.5 books is amazing!! I was over the moon with my 1.5 and I can't even imagine getting through as many as 4.5! I suppose if I hadn't got distracted by watching Parks and Recreation with Andy, I might have done better but we don't get that much time together during the week what with work and everything so I never really have the heart to be like "Shh - I will not watch TV with you, I will read"...
ReplyDeleteI kind of like my way of half-arsing it now so might just stick to it! I'm a little less keen on The Ocean at the End of the Lane now...I've never actually been convinced about Neil Gaiman but I still think I'll give this a go. Mainly because I don't know which box my copy of Neverwhere is in but also because this seems short and an easy way in (even if potentially not the best book I'll ever read).
I'm thrilled with my 4.5 but I only managed it because I didn't go see Lewis until Sunday evening (not BECAUSE of the read-a-thon, I hasten to add). Usually weekends are the only time we have together, so I'm not going to spend the whole thing reading... not the WHOLE thing, anyway ;)
DeleteIt's a really short, quick read... although I've forgotten it already. I DID pay it the required amount of attention at the time even though it was a read-a-thon, so I can't help but feel that it's the book's fault and it IS just kind of generic.
Watch out for unbelievable charges. It must not price you anything for a organization to evaluation your records in order to evaluate Ryan Eagle Scammer how they can help you. And if they do cost a fee, the price should be very little.
