In Which Hanna and Ellie Go Slightly Crazy...

Everybody, meet Ellie (left) and Hanna (right). They are Bad People.

Although they are responsible for single-handedly rebooting the bookish economy of Chesterfield, they also left a trail of debris and sobbing Waterstones employees behind them. Hanna threatened to return and stalk a friendly charity shop volunteer until she read a particular book about exploding chipmunks (which Ellie then bought, for some reason best known to herself), while Ellie alarmed several well-intentioned figures of authority by mumbling about how if she disappeared, it was because her mother had killed her.

A reward of £500 is available for the capture of these Crazy People. Chances are, however, that they will just spend it on books.

 

Don't you just love staring at a huge pile of new books that you've just spent a day buying? It helps that all but two of the above books are brand new, as well. When Ellie and I went shopping in Leeds with Charlotte, most of my purchases ended up being from charity shops, but today Waterstones and WH Smiths did me proud.

It did help that I had £90 in book vouchers, of which I spent £70. It's good because I get to stroke my books with only the tiniest feeling of guilt.

*smirks*

Anyway. We started off in a little indie remainder bookstore, where I bought The Weird Sisters by Eleanor Brown and Ellie bought five books. No, I don't know what, but let's just focus on the quantity for now, 
 
Then we hit Waterstones, where I veered right and Ellie veered left... which meant I snatched up the very last copy of Mr Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore, and so Ellie did an adorable little pouty face. Well, not really. But I wouldn't have given her the book even if she had. Mwa hahaha!

I also bought Crown of Midnight, which I read as a NetGalley but loved so much that I had to own a copy. I'd been eyeing up The President's Hat for a while and Horns made it into the basket because of the Daniel Radcliffe film coming out soon, and obviously I'd like to read it before watching it. A Thousand Pardons was a complete whim because it had a pretty 1920s style cover, but hey ho.

Then we trailed back to WH Smiths, despite already having walked past it twice. Lesson of the day: never trust Ellie's and Hanna's sense of direction. She is almost completely responsible for the fall-out in there though - not only did she draw my attention to Longbourn, an amazing-looking retelling of Pride and Prejudice from the perspective of the servants, but she also pointed out Tampa... whose cover we absolutely do not need to discuss.

I can't really blame her for The Haunted Book. But I bought it anyway. I'm like that.

Lastly (for me!) I bought a copy of The Lies of Locke Lamora from a charity shop, as I borrowed it from the library and really enjoyed it. I even did a little squeal as I spotted it from across the shop.

So those were my books. Do you know how heavy eleven books are? Answer: even heavier when you then have to get a train, walk across town to collect your boyfriend's house keys, walk to the bus stop and then walk a mile uphill to get home! Today my shoulders and back are killing.

It was ridiculously worth it though. I love Ellie and we had an amazing day. Sometimes I forget how easy some bloggers are to talk to -  seeing their words on a screen every day just isn't the same.
