TBR Pile: December 2012

So it's the last chance to complete my 2012 reading challenges! It's so unlikely to happen it's ridiculous, but that's okay and I may as well have one last stab!

I actually did reasonably well with my November TBR pile, so hopefully I can do something similar this month.

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain - this is actually for my own challenge, the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen one. This is one of the few books on there I haven't read ever and it's also on my Filling the Gaps project list. If I'm honest, I have little (if any) interest in it but I always meant to get round to it eventually.

One Day by David Nicholls - alright, so I do actually want to read this one. I don't think I've ever heard a bad thing about it and it's been on my TBR for over a year now.  Not to mention I want to see the film, but flatly refuse without reading the book first.

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins - this one is more curiosity than anything else. It's not my usual type of thing, but once again it's been collecting dust for more than a year. If it's anything near as good as the reviews claim it is, it should be amazing!

Snuff by Terry Pratchett - I'm actually halfway through this already, so I should at least finish one of these books by the end of December! It's not amazing, but it's readable.

Fables: Volume One - I'm really excited about this one! I've had it for almost forever, but it's too large to keep with my other TBR books so I keep forgetting it exists. But not anymore, oh no! This month it will get read!

I've just realised I managed to sound like I want to read hardly any of the above books in the slightest. I do, I swear!

  1. That's a great list!! Wohoo for both of us reading One Day!!

I LOVED Anna and the French Kiss. I didn't expect to, as YA is kind of hit or miss for me. But will take a chance on anything set in Paris. I loved it and read the companion novel.

I can't remember if it was Tom Sawyer or Huck Finn that I disliked. I remember liking one but not the other. I do adore Mark Twain though.

    1. Hi Jenn! Haha, I was inspired by your TBR pile and figured now was as good a time as any to pick it up :)

I know what you mean - I have the same reaction to YA usually. That's just it though - I heard even people who aren't normally YA fans loved this book, so I just had to get it.

  4. Super-amazeballs list this month, my darling! I *cough* stillhaven'treadTomSawyer *cough*, but I've got One Day on the shelves (same problem - want to see the film, can't until I've read it!), and I won a signed hardback of Anna and the French Kiss and it had AMAZING reviews and yet I still haven't carefully prised the dustjacket off and actually read it. (Come on, you'd totally do the same thing.) I've heard rather cool things about Fables too, so it's so NICE of you to read ahead and tell me whether I need to buy it immediately. :P

P.S. If you check your emails in a bit I'm going to send you one about Xmas Pressies and Delivery Addresses etc. But, like, after I've finished my coffee and I'm done hitting things because our house buyers are stupid.

    1. I would totally do the same thing! Which you know, as you told me this story way back in January when you bought me this book, dear :p

I want to see One Day almost entirely because of Anne Hathaway's 'Yorkshire' accent :)

It's nice of me!? Huh. Usually you grumble and mutter whenever I tell you to run out and immediately buy a book... Speaking of, YOU MUST READ 11.22.63 by Stephen King. You MUST.

  6. I read The Adventures of Tom Sawyer when I was a kid so I don't really remember any details but I think it was pretty good. I read The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn last year and really enjoyed it :) Hope you will too! And good luck with the challenges!!
