Booking in Heels' First Blog Birthday: Part One

On Sunday 13th May 2012, Booking in Heels is one year old! Can you believe it!? To celebrate, I'm running a three day event right up to the day itself, when I'll be running a stupendous giveaway!

In the meantime, here's what will be going on:

Friday: The Blog! A look at Booking in Heels itself and what makes it (and me) tick.
Saturday: The Books! What books wouldn't I have discovered without blogging?
Sunday: The Buddies! We all know blogging wouldn't be half as much fun without the amazing community, so here are a few of my special friends.

Keep checking back and celebrate with me!

 Day One: The Blog

I'm wonderful at starting new projects, but terrible about keeping up to them. I reckon a have an amazing new idea every six weeks or so and then dive into it with enthusiasm, devoting hours and hours to success. Unfortunately, then the effort slowly starts to peter out and I get distracted by the next brilliant idea. Seriously. Every single time.

That's why I'm amazed Booking in Heels is still up-and-running. Don't get me wrong - I was much more excited about it to begin with. I stumbled across Musings of a Bookshop Girl completely by accident one day (although more about Ellie on Sunday!) and thus found the wonderful world of book blogs. I clicked on blog after blog and eventually realised that maybe I could start my own!

At first, after finishing a book, I'd jump straight onto the computer and start tap-tap-tapping away at a review until it was finished. Now it takes me a day or so to get round to even writing the title, and then I get distracted every few minutes by Twitter or Castleville. That said, I still love blogging and I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have my website. It may also have something to do with the fact that I had to leave my job shortly after I set this up and it's an interesting and productive way to fill my time.

I'm not really sure how much time I spent blogging - I tend to sit at the computer a lot anyway, usually doing five different things at once, so it's hard to separate. I such royally at scheduling posts, which is something I need to get better at before September and I start my very time-consuming Law course.

I do spend a lot of time looking at stats. I know I should spend more time creating content instead of looking at the figures for the content I already have, but it's just so fascinating! I love the Google search terms especially. Look at how people got to my blog over the past few weeks -

Why do I like Harry Potter more than my boyfriend?
Who doesn't?

Tris is unbearable in Insurgent.
Seconded.

Booking in Heels blog.
This makes me smile. Somebody is specifically looking for my blog! Somebody not very clever, granted, as it's not difficult to guess bookinginheels.COM but there you go :)

I hate Keira Knightley.
As do we all dear, as do we all.

While I'm on the topic, I love everybody that visits Booking in Heels. I'll talk more about the people special to me on Sunday, but if you've ever visited here - thank you!

  1. It's been a YEAR?! Even though that makes me a little worried about how time can pass by so fast, I'm excited for your blog birthday! Celebrations always do bring out the over-enthusiast in me! :-p

I for one am very happy that you're still blogging and that it wasn't a fad and that I get to still have those freaky "ME TOO!" moments with you all the time.

Also, I'm such a dork that I actually read this and had a moment where I was like - "Ah, I didn't know - I should have got a card!". Although I don't think Paperchase does blog birthdays yet...next year, there'll be a card if I have to make it myself!

    1. There's a gap in the market there!

      Happy blogoversary for Sunday Hanna!

    2. Now THERE'S an incentive to make it through another year, if nothing else. I want a hand-made blogoversary card, damn it! :)

  2. Congrats on one year! It is a huge deal to get to this point as many people over the years have quit blogging.

I hope you stick with it for the years to come and read many more great books!

  3. It's only been a year? I thought you'd been around for years and years! Congratulations on your blogiversary, and may there be many more years to come!

  4. It's been a whole year already?! And can I just say, what a cool way of marking the occasion... I'm not 100% sure, but I think I may have forgotten mine. :(

CONGRATULATIONS - and P.S. I'm not entirely certain of this, but the 'Booking in Heels blog' search MAY have been me. I was *cough* on Google anyway and *cough* feeling a bit lazy and *cough cough* they did all the work for me... ;)

    1. I thought yours was somewhere close to your birthday? I know it's May, but I thought it was closer to the end?

Ellie, shame on you! Although it does make me smile when people specifically search for MY blog :)

  5. Congrats on hitting the year mark. I blame my inability to keep my focus on a project on my astrology (Gemini), so I'm surprised I've made it six months!

Hearing that Tris is unbearable in Insurgent does not bode well with me. I wasn't Divergent's biggest, but I had hopes for Insurgent.

    1. I wouldn't say she's unbearable - in fact, that searcher only found my blog because I'd typed that she isn't! I definitely prefer Divergent though, because she is quite annoying in Insurgent.

  6. I tried to comment on this yesterday but my silly phone wouldn't let me!

Aaaaaah CONGRATULATIONS!!! :-D I totally know how exciting it is to be 1, especially as a fellow person who dedicates myself body and soul to my new great idea for about five minutes before giving up on it, so in that vein I will sit here and be very proud of both of us!

I know what you mean about the beginning being more exciting - I remember when I used to review absolutely everything I ever read, even if it was a little crap and I wasn't at all impressed by it. Thankfully I've stopped doing that now, but on a lighter note, you're awesome, your blog is honestly one of my favourites, and your reviews mostly make me giggle, especially the ones where you're really scathing about things. OH and your IMMs always make me add to my TBR!

Oh and by the way, I read So Many Books So Little Time recently and I agree completely about Sara Nelson. Who on earth reads books just to impress people and bases entire friendships on whether their friends like the books they like? What's wrong with the woman?!

Congrats again Hanna :-) I hope you keep blogging for many more years to come xx

    1. Thank you :) We both know I wouldn't be anywhere close to where I am now if it wasn't for your support at the beginning!

And I KNOW! She's just so, so irritating and I couldn't understand her at all. She clearly doesn't love books, just the way they make her look.
