Top Ten Tuesday - Hanna's Spring TBR

This is my last of what I plan to be reading this Spring, including old releases, new releases and not-yet releases.

That said, three seconds after I make a list I usually decide that actually I don't want to read a damn thing on it, but hey ho.

1) Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton

I have no idea why I'm so desperate to read this, but I really, really am. I rewatched the film in February time-ish and then read up on the novel. Apparently it's a lot less cheesy and quite scientific, so I'm ridiculously looking forward to it.

2) Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore

I swear, if I could only choose one new release for the rest of the year, this would be it. Hell, for the rest of the decade. I adored Graceling and Fire, and I'm so, so excited for Bitterblue. The release date is May 1st, as far as I'm aware.

3) Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen

This is actually the only Austen I haven't read. I stayed away from her books for a little while after being disappointed by Sense and Sensibility and Mansfield Park, but I fell all the way back in love with her last year when I finally got round to reading Emma and Persuasion. I can't wait to see which side of the fence Northanger Abbey falls on :)

4) Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux

I've finally made progress with my League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Challenge this week by reading Dracula, but I'd like to knock a few more off the list this Spring. I've never read The Phantom of the Opera before, despite loving the stage show, and I think the time has come!

5) Insurgent by Veronica Roth

I'm 100% positive this will be on the majority of lists today! I loved Divergent when I read it last year, and when this is released, I'll be spending the entire day hiding between the pages :)

6) One Day by David Nicholls

I can't believe I haven't read this yet. A friend recommended it to me before it became a film and therefore A Big Deal, but I never got round to picking it up. I've heard bad things about the ending so I'm kind of scared to pick it up now...

7) Delirium by Lauren Oliver

Another one I've had on my TBR for a stupid length of time. I don't think I've ever read a negative review of it, but that kind of makes me shy away from it a little. I've read too many books that built up my expectations unjustifiably. Still, I'm determined to get round to it this Spring!

8) The Brides of Rollrock Island by Margo Lanagan

This was sent to me by the nice people over at Random House and it looks wonderful. Such a nice-looking cover too. I'll be reading and reviewing this one fairly sharpish, so keep an eye out.

9) Wonder by R.J. Palacio

This was sent to me as a giveaway/RAK thing by Ellie at Musings of a Bookshop Girl, bless her heart. This seems to be everywhere at the minute - all over the blogs and I saw that it even had it's own little table in Waterstones. I'm not usually a massive fan of Middle Grade, but I'm still looking forward to picking this up.

10) The Godmother by Elizabeth Ann Scarborough

Everyone loves 90s fantasy novels, right? This is, obviously, a fairy godmother story. Not only can I hunker down under the duvet on a rainy day and pretend that magic is real, but I can also use it for Bex's Telling Tales Challenge!

So that's my Spring all planned out, but like I said, it probably won't happen. Jurassic Park though, I promise you, will get read!

  2. That's quite a varied selection. I've actually read Jarassic Park, and it is a brilliant read. Darker than the films. And yes, quite science-y. And I'm also an Austen fan, and I tried reading Northanger Abbey last month and I got about one quater of the way through and had to give up because I couldn't stand the narrator - good luck with it!

    1. That was my problem with Mansfield Park - she was just too annoying! Ah well, at least I'll know one way or the other!

  3. Northanger Abbey is one of my favourites! Jane's all like 'books are awesome' and I respond 'dude, I know!' (this is what happens in my brain when I read Northanger Abbey, just in case you were wondering!)

    1. For me it's usually me going "You're awesome!" and then JANE responds with "Dude, I know!" :p

  5. I couldn't believe how long it took me to finally read Delirium.. it's a fantastic book (and I loved the sequel, Pandemonium, even more!)

Jurassic Park is a classic! LOVED the first film, and this book is an exciting read too! Same with One Day! Loved the book, but haven't seen the movie yet..

Thanks for stopping by my Top 10! :)

  6. I love the Phantom stage show too, the book is very different but if you enjoyed Dracula I think you'll like it. It's surprisingly short though.

  7. I think you'll really like Delirium! It was one of my favorites from last year. :) I've really been wanting to read Phantom of the Opera too. Hopefully soon. Great list! Have fun reading. :)

  8. I'm so unbelievably excited about Bitterblue it's ridiculous! I also fell in love with the bundles of amazing that were Graceling and Fire and can't wait to see the end. At least, I thought it was a trilogy but I could be wrong...

You haven't read One Day?! I loved it. Then I gave it to my Mum and she loved it. And one of the partners at my firm read it and loved it. So really, the world loves it and you should read it. Although the ending is one to look out for...but you should still read it! I haven't seen the film yet but I am curious to see how it stacks up.

Oh, and Insurgent is also a given. Duh.

And I really want to also get started on your challenge books. I'm thinking that I'm going to start with The Invisible Man.

    1. I know, I'm so so excited about it. I didn't realise it was so soon until a few weeks ago, so I'm suffering through all the anticipation at once :D

'The world loves it and you should read it.' I'm going to make a bazillion t-shirts, each with a favourite book and that phrase... I don't like sad endings!!!

The Invisible Man is the next on my list :)

    2. It hadn't occurred to me either until I just wrote about how excited I was! Now I'm super looking forward to both but also worrying that one of them won't be as brilliant as I hope...

Which reminds me, have you seen the 'new' editions of Divergent? They're neither shiny nor as pretty so I refuse to like them - see?
