In My Mailbox #18

Well folks, it's finally happened. My TBR pile has got to the point where even I have to admit it's ridiculous. I'm obtaining books far faster than I'm reading them. I can't say this actually bothers me over-much, but navigating my bedroom is like an obstacle course and I'm fast running out of available floor space.

So what am I planning to do about this?

Well... uh, nothing, actually. Just thought I'd let you know!

Anyway. After adoring The Prestige last week (my review is here) I naturally set out to track down as many of Christopher Priest's other books as humanly possible. I managed to get hold of two - The Glamour and The Islanders, which is his newest work, I believe. I'm so excited about these it's ridiculous.

I was talking to Hannah from Once Upon A Time about Twenties Girl, funnily enough. She'd found it in a charity shop and I was complaining about how I kept looking for it but could never find it. The next day, there it was in Help the Aged. I swear she's my Fairy Bookmother and swished her magic wand to make it appear!

Actually, it was kind of a weird week for charity shops all round. I kind of had to convince myself to go and rummage through them because I was having a moderately poorly day and didn't really feel like it. I managed in the end by reminding myself of all those new YA books that could be waiting patiently on the shelves for me to come and grab them, picturing The Knife of Never Letting Go in my head, as I did so. I wasn't even particularly looking for that one - it just popped into my head. But hey, in Help The Aged again - there it was.

That shop is magic, I tell you.

Wolfsong was sent to me for review. It looks like just my type of thing so I can't wait to get started on that one.

I also got two new copies of Pride and Prejudice this week. This makes my total collection up to 33, I think. The big red one is an old one from the 1950s and came from a Wildlife Sanctuary charity shop. The other has a strange parcel paper type cover and I bought it from eBay. I keep meaning to post a photo of them all but I keep getting distracted by picking Purple Mountain Flowers on Skyrim.

What did you find in your mailbox this week? Do you have a magical charity shop near you?

  3. Ooh I saw another blogger I follow got Wolfsong! :) I'm intrigued, look forward to your review.

Also have to make a confession. May have picked up a second copy of Twenties Girl that I was going to surprise you with but I suppose it's a good job I slacked on mailing it out. ;) Read It Swap It a-go-go!

AND I've been looking for an old tattered well-loved edition of Pride and Prejudice but no luck. Suppose they chuck them out before I can get my greedy mitts on them. /sigh.

  4. I'm so glad I'm not the only crazy who collects several editions of the same book. lol I collect copies of The Little Prince in its different translations. I love Jane Austen, but I think if I collected several copies of her novels, my shelves would be completely unmanageable. lol!

  6. @Hannah - Oh no! That's so so nice! Each day I love you that little bit more. I'm sorry I bought it - I didn't know!

And ha, I'm the only one that ever buys copies of P + P in our charity shops so they all know to put them aside.

  8. Ha! I love that you've just come to accept that the TBR is too big. I think a lot of us have that problem, so it's good to hear another person admit it.

I don't know anything about Wolfsong, but the title has me intrigued. Happy reading! Don't trip on your books when you wake up in the morning.

  10. I'm looking forward to 'The Knife of Never Letting Go' and 'Twenties Girl' meself. I found the Kinsella on Play - they were selling a new hardcover, SIGNED, with free delivery, for £2.99, how awesome is that?! Oh, and I adore magic charity shops!

And for heavens sake, don't worry about your TBR pile yet! I've got 'em coming in by the tens right now (bit of a book binge, oops) so if YOU'RE worrying, I should be REALLY worrying. And that's not very festive. Always an excuse. ;)
